 How to Analyze a Dream

Did you know that your dreams could tell you about emotions that you are holding on to, have become attached to feeling, or refusing to release?
Years ago, when I was in college, my psychology teacher taught us a perspective that I still use today. He said, " When you have a dream, see yourself as everything in the dream, even physical objects." Then ask yourself, "How do I feel? How does it feel to be this or that?" Write those adjectives or emotional words down on a piece of paper. Now read over those words, and see if they describe how you feel about a current life situation. More than likely, you'll know exactly what situation is being described rather quickly.

The subconscious mind uses dreams to help us release emotions that we either do not know how to release, or we refuse to release. The mind will create scenes that will help us bring those emotions to the surface and hopefully help us release them. We can take this one step farther, but learning to find the emotions coming up in dreams, evaluate them, and release them.

Here's an example for you.
Last night, I dreamed I was standing with my oldest son, Riley. I dropped my phone and the screen cracked into a million pieces. (This is a constant fear of mine by the way, because I drop my phone.. a lot..) So I asked myself the following:
How did I feel in that moment? regret
If I were the phone, how did I feel? broken, destroyed, useless
If I were Riley, how did I feel? sympathy

As I review these words, I know exactly the situation this is pointing me too. The dream pointed out a constant fear and how I would feel if that event actually happened. Now I can take this information and begin to release and heal from all fears, and regrets that I have from this life situation... and here you thought it was just a simple dream about a cracked iPhone. I encourage you to look deeper into your dreams. They can be a wonderful tool for understanding deep fears and emotions and allow you the opportunity to heal and release them once and for all.
